Job Description & Skills Required
Swimming teachers work with children and adults of all ages and abilities to develop swimming skills, enhance performance, encourage greater participation in swimming, supervise aquatic activities, and organise and conduct swimming lessons according to established teaching standards and safety regulations.
TASKS
teaches individuals or groups by demonstrating swimming techniques and directing swimming lessons and training sessions;
assesses participants’ swimming ability and monitors technique and performance to determine how future improvements can be made;
deals with administrative aspects such as arranging swimming lessons, assessments or events, and organising required equipment and facilities;
provides information and develops activities to encourage greater participation in swimming, and to enhance the standards of participants;
teaches water safety and ensures participants follow established safety procedures at all times;
understands health and safety aspects of swimming activities and ensures all statutory requirements are met;
inspects and maintains swimming teaching equipment and ensures the pool environment is safe for lessons;
supervises participants in the swimming pool and controls the progress of lessons according to established teaching standards and safety regulations.
